All In Me Head

So much of my life is lived inside my head …

Wingnut Takedown

Posted tonight in response to a comment by some WingNut Daily reader ["crystn2"] going off about how I was some kind of communist socialist atheist, whatever.  The commenter’s original post was deleted as being “offensive” by Digg before I was able to capture it into here, but I think the fact it was deleted stands testament enough.
Show your ill-informed hatred and ignorance, crystn2.

People like yourself are the reason I walked away from an MDiv (granted by a highly esteemed Baptist institution, before you go making ‘liberal-theology’ assumptions) and walked away from the brand of Christianity that pushes the idea that *government* is the only way to get Christian work done. In the eleven years since that day, I have not met one self-professed Christian whose heart is not full of hatred, and whose *implementation* of the *theory* I learned in seminary matches (even in the ball-park) the vision of ideal character set forth in the Gospels.

Question: When are people like yourself going to quit trying to scorch (your idea of) liberals for expecting government to do all the work — and realize that the government is NOT here to do the ‘grunt work’ that your Christ demanded *y’all* to do?

Government is not here to do the heavy lifting where changing society is involved. (It is merely a mediator / expediter, and the less of it we can get away with, the better.) It is the job of people who take the time, and the brutal effort required to remove HATRED, INTOLERANCE and IGNORANCE from their character and then reach out in love.

Question: When is the religious right going to realize that allying itself with the wealthy and with racists to win an election, that spewing hate speech is only HASTENING the very disintegration of society you so desperately (and correctly) fear?

Before you rip people like myself and the 100 or so of my friends up here (and dozens more in the real world) as “pagans, illegals, dead, illiterate, felons” do yourself a favour and check out www.matthew25.org, and read up on your Tony (and Bart) Campolo. I’m sure it’ll make you retch, but if you’re honest with yourself after having read that, you will not be able to make many of the statements you make above.

Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin, James 4:17
